Annual Farce
It’s a trend to talk about “Freedom From _____” around August 15. Karnataka Government did this hilarious campaign called “Freedom From Waste”. Like every bureaucratic joke, this campaign is restricted only to construction debris. All freedoms come with an asterisks and conditions.
At least Delhi is not even attempting such shenanigans.
And we do it every year, while no substantive action is taken to secure the said freedom. But this year, I can claim I have actually made progress on one front. An important one.
Freedom From Half Hearted People
My long standing weakness was that I gave a chance to half hearted people, both in family and romantic relationships. I stretched myself and my emotional bandwidth and went out of my way to preserve these relationships and the crumbs offered by people involved.
Over a period of three years, breaking off this tendency has been difficult but rewarding. Oh the torture of hanging on to a thread in a storm. No more. I would rather cut the thread and float aimlessly in the empty space, rather than endure the torture of being in these half hearted relationships.
Inertia and nostalgia are two enemies that need to be dealt with in the process. The hostage negotiations that happen within your mind can be self-destructive. But then, you finally reach a point where you can say — “I’ll either have everything or nothing.”
The shackles of a controlling authority do their job only with your consent and cooperation. But Gandhiji taught us non-cooperation. When you find yourself in a half hearted relationship, apply the lessons of history. Stop cooperating, cut the thread and end the damn thing.
Half hearted people are like the construction waste on the streets of Bengaluru. You can’t build anything with them. You can only cry over the ruins of your memories and demolished self worth. Get rid of the construction waste.
Happy Independence Day in advance.
